get in the hoop

1. Paint the outer edge of your hoop and set aside to dry.
2. Cut 2 layers of organza, measured 1”–2” larger than the hoop’s perimeter.
3. Glue found words to one layer of the organza and set aside.
4. With the inner hoop, wrap wire around it in differing directions, passing over the center 4-5 times, and taping each point where the wire folds over the edge of the hoop, with small strips of duct tape.
5. Do the same with the hemp string and the rick-rack.
6. Lay the plain organza sheet on top of the inner hoop.
7. Lay the word-embellished organza sheet on top of the plain sheet, wrong-side out.  (The words will be sandwiched between the organza sheets.)
8. Carefully fit the outer hoop around all layers with the screw at your desired top edge and tighten.
9. Glue thin, ripped fabric scraps to the front edge of the hoop and around the top screw.

10. Age fabric edges with distress inks.

11. Securely wrap colorful wire around the cloth-covered screw for hanging.

12. Use embellished clothespin clasps to hold notes to wire and strings.

• Heavily quilted scraps
• Glass beads
• Beading thread and needle
• Tacky glue
• Found words
• Wire cutters
• Needle-nose pliers
• 16-gauge wire or similar

 directions

1. Cut wire to the desired length for the stem.
2. Curl each end of the wire with pliers.
3. Cut 2 identical circles out of your quilted scrap.
4. Sew a few glass beads to one circle, off center.
5. Glue the circle backs together with one end of the wire sandwiched between them.
6. Glue 1-2 encouraging found words to the front.
7. Attach to hoop for inspiration and/or give to someone with love.
