ABOUT USPATRICIA CHATHAM BOLTON (Editor-in-Chief) was introduced to embellished quilting and the related needle arts in 1998 when she took some Christmas money and bought her first sewing machine. Ever since she took her first stitch (a fly) and embroidered her first motif (a spider), she has been entangled in this hobby and doesn't envision herself free. Embellished quilting and mixed-media arts have, quite literally, taken over her life--so much so that she left her doctoral program and full-time job as a special education teacher to found Quilting Arts Magazine®. She lives in Stow, Massachusetts with her publishing/attorney husband, three dogs, and two cats. JOHN P. BOLTON (Publisher) was introduced to quilting quite rudely when he stepped on a quilting needle (left by his wife on the family room floor). Rather than get upset, he encouraged her to keep quilting, but to please put the needles away. Always a doting husband, he is quick to praise his wife's efforts in fiber artistry, although he has no intention of picking up a needle himself (rather, the golf club). An attorney by trade, he is the publisher of Quilting Arts Magazine® and Cloth Paper Scissors®. LARISSA DAVIS (Art & Design) has been working as a graphic designer for 15 years. Having studied art in college, she was thrilled to serendipitously find herself working for the publisher of such fabulous magazines devoted to art and creativity. Through her work with Quilting Arts and Cloth Paper Scissors, she finds endless inspiration for her own art. Larissa lives on a late 1800s farm in the western foothills of Maine with her husband, four children, and 25 hens. BARBARA DELANEY (Assistant Editor) has always loved words and her job keeps her immersed in them daily. She has quilted for a number of years, finishing two quilts for her daughter's room just in time for her daughter to change her favorite color! Barbara never quite appreciated quilting as an art form until joining Quilting Arts Magazine, and is constantly amazed at the variety of art and talent. She enjoys hand piecing and hand quilting, actually preferring it to using a machine and, sadly, has a number of UFOs because of that choice. Inspired by a number of featured artists, she has added another "hand-stitching" hobby to her repertoire (beading) and it has become a new favorite. SALLY MURRAY (Director of Circulation) took pity on her sister-in-law (Patricia) years ago when Quilting Arts Magazine® first launched and Patricia was totally overwhelmed. Sally agreed to help Patricia "a few hours a week" but it soon turned into a full-time job. Since that time, Sally has become a whiz on all matters of circulation. Although she loves her job, she, John, and Patricia try very hard to not "talk shop" at family events. She and her husband are proud parents to four beautiful children. CATE COULACOS PRATO (Features Editor) has written for magazines and newspapers for 25 years. Her collections of colorful vintage linens, fabrics and buttons, as well as old cards and photographs, fill the Massachusetts home she shares with her husband, two daughters, a cat and a dog. She recently picked up the threads of needlework left behind as a teenager and has been making scarves, jewelry and home decorations with vintage buttons and textiles. LESLEY RILEY (Arts Editor for Cloth Paper Scissors) Best known for her Fragment series of small fabric collages, Lesley is also an internationally known teacher, writer, quilter and mixed-media artist with a passion for color and the written word. Her work takes the form of art quilts, fabric books, dolls and more. Her art and articles have appeared in numerous publications and juried shows. She has also authored two books, the most recent Fabric Memory Books published by Lark/Sterling. With her art and her website, www.LaLasLand.com, Lesley aspires to inspire others to find their own voice and create art. BARBARA STASZAK (Director of Advertising) has over 25 years experience in the advertising business. She "cut her teeth" during her 10 years as Account Executive at one of the largest advertising agencies in Boston. Since then she's worked her marketing magic at a luggage company, a computer training company and a regional newspaper. She's now thrilled to be part of the quilting and mixed-media world of Interweave Press, LLC. Her job here is to handle any and all aspects of advertising. She's more than happy to answer any question or handle any problem relating to advertising in both of our magazines. Give her a call; she loves to chat! GERALDINE STEVENS (Assistant Director of Circulation) has had a love of fabric and design ever since she was a child playing with drafting tools supplied by her architect uncle. She has also enjoyed the pursuit of antiques and funky objects for many years. Working Working in our Stow offices and store provides a daily exposure to beautiful and unusual uses of the things she love, as well as talking with the people who create them. It's the best of both worlds! |
